Accra-Tema motorway expansion project begins construction phase

Construction work has formally commenced on the dual carriageway expansion of the Accra-Tema Motorway, with contractors moving heavy equipment onto site following the breaking of ground ceremony.
The project, funded through a combination of government bonds and development finance from the African Development Bank, will widen the motorway from four to eight lanes over its 19-kilometre stretch.
Roads Minister Kwasi Amoako-Atta said the project was critical to reducing the economic cost of traffic congestion estimated at over GH¢2 billion annually.
The project is expected to be completed within 36 months.
