2027: It’ll Be Over for Tinubu — Dele Momodu Predicts Election Outcome
ADC chieftain Dele Momodu says Atiku Abubakar could defeat President Tinubu in 2027 if he secures northern votes and performs strongly across southern states in the election.
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has predicted that the 2027 presidential election will be a difficult contest for President Bola Tinubu, expressing confidence that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could emerge victorious if he secures strong support in the North and remains competitive in the South.
Momodu made the remarks during an interview on Nevon Media with journalist Oseni Rufai on Friday, where he discussed possible political realignments ahead of the next general election.
According to him, Atiku stands a strong chance of defeating both President Tinubu and Labour Party figure Peter Obi if he consolidates votes across the northern region while maintaining a significant presence in southern states.
“As I predicted, Atiku will win the majority of the North, and if he is able to compete favourably in the South, it will be over for President Tinubu and Peter Obi,” Momodu said.
He further argued that Atiku could comfortably meet the constitutional requirements for winning the presidency, including securing at least 25 per cent of votes in two-thirds of the states of the federation.
“Atiku will secure at least 25 per cent of the votes in 26 states while also dominating the North, which is where the bulk of the votes are,” he added.
Momodu said the political landscape ahead of 2027 differs significantly from that of the 2023 election, noting that the North appears more united behind Atiku than it was in the previous poll.
According to him, the absence of strong northern contenders challenging Atiku could work in his favour and strengthen his chances at the ballot.
He also alleged that political calculations are already underway to influence the electoral environment before the next election, claiming that some parties are being targeted because of their perceived threat to the ruling party.
Speaking on the South-West, Momodu maintained that Atiku could still perform strongly in states such as Osun despite endorsements of President Tinubu by some political leaders in the region.
He argued that voters, rather than political office holders, would ultimately determine the outcome of the election.
The comments come as political stakeholders continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections, with discussions on possible alliances and party strategies already gaining momentum across the country.
