World Bank Considers Katsina Community Development Framework for Wider Adoption
The World Bank has expressed interest in considering Katsina State’s Community Development Programme as a model for community-driven development in other parts of Nigeria.
The World Bank has expressed interest in considering Katsina State’s Community Development Programme CDP framework for possible adoption in other states across Nigeria.
Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Radda, disclosed this while speaking at the inauguration of the Dikko Mai da Alkhairi da Alkhairi movement in Katsina.
Radda said the development followed a recent engagement with a World Bank delegation, which expressed satisfaction with the effectiveness and grassroots impact of the programme.
He said the interest demonstrated the value of the CDP’s community-based approach to delivering government interventions and ensuring that development programmes respond to the needs of communities.
The governor said the programme had helped bridge the gap between government interventions and residents by taking development initiatives directly to communities across the state.
He added that the CDP had also digitalised aspects of its programmes and interventions, noting that technology would improve transparency, coordination and accountability.
According to him, the digital structure would also expose young people involved in the programme to leadership, administrative and technological skills that could prepare them for future responsibilities in government and public service.
Radda stressed that the CDP was established to serve residents of Katsina State irrespective of political affiliation, maintaining that government interventions should benefit communities across the state.
The World Bank had earlier commended Katsina for institutionalising community-driven development and participatory budgeting, saying the approach could strengthen community ownership, accountability and sustainability.
The governor said the programme had implemented interventions in areas including agriculture, fertiliser distribution, water supply and other community development initiatives.
He commended members of the CDP for their contributions to grassroots development and their efforts to strengthen engagement between communities and government.
The development comes as Katsina continues to collaborate with the World Bank on development programmes, including initiatives targeting women’s economic empowerment and community investment.
Radda said the state would continue to strengthen partnerships aimed at improving the effectiveness and reach of development interventions across communities.
