Wike Inaugurates Dunamis-Built Pedestrian Bridge Along Abuja Airport Road
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has inaugurated a pedestrian bridge constructed by Dunamis International Gospel Centre along Abuja’s Airport Road, announcing that the FCT Administration would reimburse the church for 50 per cent of the project cost.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has inaugurated a pedestrian bridge constructed by Dunamis International Gospel Centre along the busy Airport Road in Abuja.
The minister commissioned the facility on Friday at the church’s headquarters, the 100,000-capacity Glory Dome, where he commended its Senior Pastor, Dr Paul Enenche, and his wife, Dr Becky Enenche, for investing in public infrastructure and community safety.
Wike described the project as an example of corporate social responsibility, noting that government alone could not meet every infrastructure and public welfare need.
He also announced that the FCT Administration would reimburse the church for 50 per cent of the total cost of constructing the bridge.
The minister disclosed that the church initially applied for approval to build the facility in 2018, but the application was brought to his attention in February 2026 after the church sent a reminder.
He said approval was subsequently granted within a month, describing the process as an indication of the administration's readiness to support initiatives that benefit residents.
Wike urged Nigerians to acknowledge government efforts where progress had been made while continuing to demand accountability in areas requiring improvement.
He also expressed concern over pedestrians who disregard available footbridges and cross busy expressways, exposing themselves to avoidable accidents.
Earlier, Enenche explained that the church embarked on the project in response to concerns over frequent fatal accidents along the Airport Road corridor.
He said the church planned to improve the structure further with protective coverings, security lighting and transparent side panels to shield users from adverse weather conditions and encourage greater use of the facility.
The cleric called on individuals, institutions and leaders to invest their resources in projects that address societal needs and improve people's lives.
The Senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, also commended the church for its contribution to public safety, urging residents and leaders to work together towards building a safer capital city.
The project highlights the role of partnerships between government and private institutions in addressing infrastructure challenges and improving pedestrian safety in the FCT.
