Wike Drops Bombshell, Claims Fubara Signed Deal Not to Seek Second Term
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike claims Governor Siminalayi Fubara agreed not to seek re-election in 2027 as part of a Rivers crisis settlement, further intensifying the state’s ongoing political rivalry.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has claimed that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara signed an agreement not to seek re-election in 2027 as part of a political settlement reached during the Rivers State crisis.
Wike made the statement in Abuja during an inspection tour of projects scheduled for inauguration as part of activities marking the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. According to him, the agreement was part of efforts to prevent the impeachment of the Rivers governor and restore political peace in the state.
The former Rivers State governor alleged that Governor Fubara later violated parts of the understanding reached among political stakeholders involved in resolving the prolonged crisis in the state.
The remarks add another chapter to the political conflict between Wike and Fubara, whose rivalry has dominated Rivers State politics since 2023. The dispute has triggered divisions within political structures in the state and generated tensions involving the PDP and APC.
Political analysts say the controversy surrounding the alleged agreement could significantly shape the battle for political control in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections. Observers also note that debates over Fubara’s political future and second-term ambition continue to fuel tensions among supporters of both camps.
Neither Governor Fubara nor his official media team had publicly issued a detailed response to the latest claim at the time of reporting.
