JUST IN: WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons Crash Out After 1-0 Defeat to Cameroon

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been eliminated from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after losing 1-0 to Cameroon in the quarter-finals on Sunday.

The two African rivals faced off in a closely contested quarter-final, with Cameroon securing victory through a stunning free-kick from Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen in the 19th minute.

The early goal proved decisive as Nigeria struggled to find a response despite creating opportunities in search of an equaliser.

The Super Falcons pushed forward in the second half and attempted to force the match into extra time but were unable to break through Cameroon’s defence.

The defeat ends Nigeria’s hopes of defending the WAFCON title they won against Morocco at the previous edition.

The result also means the Super Falcons will have to settle for a playoff route in their bid to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Nigeria will face South Africa in Casablanca on Thursday, with a place in the Inter-Confederation Playoff Tournament at stake.

The Super Falcons’ elimination represents a major setback for the nine-time African champions, who had entered the tournament among the leading contenders for the continental title.
