WAEC Appoints Suleiman Kum as Nigeria Office Head
WAEC appoints Suleiman Kum as Nigeria office head after Amos Dangut becomes Registrar and Chief Executive Officer.
The West African Examinations Council has officially appointed Suleiman Danlami Kum as the new Head of its Nigeria National Office.
Kum succeeds Dr Amos Josiah Dangut, whose three-year tenure as head of the Nigeria office ended on October 1, 2026. Dangut has since assumed office as the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of WAEC.
The appointment was announced by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, who described Kum as a seasoned test developer, administrator and executive with extensive experience within the examination body.
Kum joined WAEC on July 17, 1998, as Assistant Registrar II and has risen through several positions during his 28-year career with the council.
Before his appointment as Head of the Nigeria National Office, he served as Deputy Registrar in the office of the Head of National Office. He also served as Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of Test Administration from September 2025 to August 2026.
His previous assignments included Director of Administration, Head of the Security Printing Department, Zonal Coordinator in Port Harcourt and Ikeja, and Branch Controller in Gusau and Kano.
WAEC said Kum has extensive knowledge of test development, examination administration, examination security and the management of branch and zonal offices.
The council also highlighted his involvement in several administrative and technological innovations, including variable data printing and enhanced security features in examination printing.
He was also involved in replacing the council-wide attendance system with facial-recognition biometric devices and led the delivery of Achievement Tests through computer-based examination technology.
Kum was born on October 16, 1970, in Minna, Niger State, and hails from Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
He obtained a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, in 1992, with Second Class Honours, Upper Division. He later obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria in 2025 and is currently completing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning.
Before joining WAEC, Kum began his professional career during his NYSC deployment in 1993 at the Division of Agricultural Colleges, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
WAEC said his leadership across various portfolios has earned him institutional commendations and recognition within and outside the council.
The new appointment places Kum at the helm of WAEC’s Nigeria operations as the examination body continues to oversee major secondary school examinations and related assessment activities across the country.
