WAEC Appoints Nigeria’s Dangut as New Registrar, CEO

The West African Examinations Council has appointed Dr Amos Dangut as its new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer.

Dangut, a Nigerian education administrator, assumes leadership of the regional examination body as it continues to oversee examinations and certification across member countries.

His appointment places him at the head of an organisation responsible for administering major secondary school examinations, including the West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

Dangut brings experience in education administration and examination management to the position. His appointment is expected to provide continuity in the council’s operations while supporting efforts to strengthen the conduct and credibility of examinations across the region.

As Registrar and CEO, he will be responsible for coordinating the council’s activities across its member states and working with governments, schools, teachers, candidates and other stakeholders.

WAEC operates across Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia and Liberia, where it conducts examinations and supports educational assessment.

The council has continued to adopt technology in examination administration, including digital processes designed to improve registration, assessment and the release of results.

Dangut’s appointment comes as WAEC faces the ongoing challenge of maintaining examination standards, combating malpractice and ensuring the credibility of certificates issued to candidates across West Africa.

The new Registrar is expected to work with national offices and other stakeholders to strengthen the council’s examination systems and address emerging challenges in education assessment.

His tenure will also come at a time when West African countries are seeking to improve the quality and efficiency of their education systems while expanding access to reliable assessment and certification.
