US Lawmaker Hails Arrest of Alleged Terrorist Leader
US lawmaker Riley Moore has welcomed the reported arrest of Mahmoud Adam in Plateau State, linking the development to security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.
A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has welcomed the reported arrest of Mahmoud Adam, whom he described as a terrorist leader allegedly responsible for attacks against Christians in Nigeria.
Moore, a Republican member of the US House of Representatives, made the remarks in a post on X on Saturday, crediting the Nigerian government for the arrest and linking it to ongoing security cooperation between both countries.
The lawmaker said the arrest demonstrated progress in efforts to strengthen security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.
He also praised the Nigerian government for the operation and said the US Congress and the administration of President Donald Trump were continuing efforts to address attacks against Christians in Nigeria.
Adam was reportedly arrested in the early hours of September 12 at his residence in Plateau State. He was described in reports as a prominent Fulani community leader, while allegations have also linked him to violent groups.
The report of his arrest emerged publicly in October following the circulation of information and photographs concerning his detention.
However, details surrounding the arrest and the allegations against Adam remain subject to official clarification. Reports have presented differing descriptions of his role, including identifying him as a community leader while alleging links to terrorist activities.
The reported arrest comes amid increased attention in Washington to insecurity and attacks involving Christian communities in Nigeria, as the two countries continue security cooperation on counterterrorism and related matters.
