Troops Repel Terrorist Attacks in Katsina and Zamfara, Rescue District Head
Nigerian Army troops have repelled terrorist attacks in Katsina and Zamfara States while successfully rescuing a district head during a coordinated operation in the North-West.
The coordinated military operation, carried out based on credible intelligence, targeted hideouts used by the terrorists in volatile border communities between the two states. According to military sources, the troops engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee into surrounding forests.
During the operation, the soldiers rescued the district head, who had been kidnapped in one of the recent attacks. The rescued traditional leader was reported to be in stable condition and was immediately evacuated to a safe location for medical checks and debriefing.
The military authorities confirmed that no soldier was injured during the exchange of fire. Several weapons, ammunition, and other items used by the terrorists were recovered from the scene and destroyed to prevent them from falling back into criminal hands.
The Nigerian Army described the operation as part of its sustained offensive against banditry, terrorism, and other forms of violent crime in the North-West region. Spokespersons emphasised that troops will maintain pressure on criminal networks operating in Katsina, Zamfara, and neighbouring states to restore peace and protect law-abiding citizens.
The latest success comes amid continued military campaigns in the North-West, where bandit groups have carried out repeated attacks on rural communities, mining sites, and travellers, resulting in deaths, abductions, and displacement of residents.
Security analysts note that the rescue of the district head and the neutralisation of attackers represent a significant morale boost for communities that have borne the brunt of insecurity in recent years.
The military has called on residents of Katsina and Zamfara to continue providing timely intelligence to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains vital in the fight against terrorism and banditry.
No official casualty figures from the terrorist side were released, but the Army said follow-up clearance operations are ongoing in the general area to prevent the regrouping of fleeing criminals.
