ToluwaniSings Taken to Eight Hospitals Before Death, Aide Says
The personal assistant to late gospel singer ToluwaniSings says the musician was taken to seven or eight hospitals in Ibadan after suddenly collapsing, but efforts to obtain medical attention were unsuccessful.
The personal assistant to late Nigerian gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as ToluwaniSings, has revealed that the musician was taken to between seven and eight hospitals in Ibadan, Oyo State, after he suddenly slumped, but could not receive the medical attention needed to save his life.
The aide, Babadunni Gbolabo, said some hospitals cited the unavailability of doctors due to an ongoing strike, while others reportedly declined to admit the singer.
Speaking on Thursday, Gbolabo said he was not present when the incident occurred but rushed to the singer’s residence after receiving a call about his sudden collapse.
He said the singer had appeared to be in good health before the incident and that those around him made efforts to resuscitate him before taking him to different hospitals.
According to the aide, the search for medical assistance took them to several facilities across Ibadan, but the attempts were unsuccessful.
He expressed sadness over the outcome, saying the singer’s associates had done everything they could, including praying for his recovery.
ToluwaniSings died in the early hours of Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the age of 41. His family subsequently confirmed his death and appealed to the public to keep his wife and loved ones in their prayers.
The gospel singer had reportedly performed at a worship programme in Ibadan on Tuesday night, less than a day before his death.
He was known for his energetic gospel performances and songs, including *A Very Big God*, *Onibuore*, *Eleda* and *I’m Not Alone*.
Gbolabo said the singer’s body had been deposited at a mortuary while family members gathered to discuss the next steps. He added that details of the funeral arrangements would be communicated after consultations.
The circumstances surrounding the singer’s death have drawn attention to the difficulties encountered in securing emergency medical care. However, the cause of his sudden collapse had not been publicly established as of Thursday.
The reported difficulties in obtaining treatment also raise concerns about emergency admission procedures and the availability of medical personnel during industrial actions.
ToluwaniSings’ death has prompted tributes from fans, colleagues and members of the gospel music community, many of whom have expressed grief over the loss of the singer.
