Tinubu Nominates Six Executive Directors for NMDPRA, Seeks Senate Confirmation
President Bola Tinubu has forwarded nominations for six executive director positions at the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to the Senate for confirmation as part of efforts to strengthen the agency’s governing board.
President Bola Tinubu has nominated six executive directors for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), seeking Senate confirmation for the appointments.
The nominations form part of the reconstitution of the governing board of the petroleum regulatory agency, established under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.
The proposed executive directors are Abiodun Adeniji for Finance; Francis Ogaree for Hydrocarbon; Oluwole Adama for Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure; and Dr Mustapha Lamorde for Corporate Services and Administration.
Others are Yahaya Nasamu Yinusa for Distribution Systems and Adeyemi Murtala Aminu for Corporate Services.
President Tinubu also proposed Modie Ogechukwu as Executive Director for Economic Regulation and Strategic Planning, while Olawale Dawodu was nominated as Board Secretary and Legal Adviser.
The nominations were included in the President’s communication to the Senate seeking approval for members of the NMDPRA governing board.
The proposed board is to be chaired by Adegbite Ebiowei Adeniji, a lawyer with more than 30 years of experience in energy and natural resources.
Other non-executive nominees include former Minister of State for Trade, Kenneth Kobani, and Asabe Ahmed.
Some of the nominees had previously served in the agency. Adama was appointed in 2024, while Lamorde and Adeniji were appointed in 2021 and Ogaree in 2022.
The President urged the Senate to consider the nominations expeditiously, emphasising the importance of effective leadership and professional oversight in Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
The proposed appointments followed the confirmation of new chief executives for the country's two petroleum regulatory agencies.
The NMDPRA regulates Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum operations, while the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission oversees upstream activities.
