Tinubu Mourns Supreme Council for Shari’ah Secretary-General Nafiu Baba-Ahmed

President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of Malam Nafiu Baba-Ahmed, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria.

Baba-Ahmed died in the early hours of Tuesday after a career dedicated to the service of Islam and Nigeria.

In a condolence statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the deceased as a respected administrator and religious leader who contributed significantly to the affairs of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria.

The President described Baba-Ahmed as an impactful leader who steered the council with wisdom, foresight and a commitment to unity, justice and peaceful coexistence.

Tinubu recalled his longstanding association with Baba-Ahmed, particularly during the build-up to the 2011 election and in subsequent years, including the deceased’s counsel and support during his 2023 presidential campaign.

He also acknowledged Baba-Ahmed’s role in sustaining the council’s voice on national issues, fostering greater understanding and promoting moral renewal and social justice.

The President commiserated with the leadership and members of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, the Baba-Ahmed family, the Kaduna State Government and people, as well as the Nigerian Muslim Ummah.

He prayed that Almighty Allah would forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, admit him to Jannatul Firdaus and grant his family and the Muslim community the fortitude to bear the loss.

Baba-Ahmed served as Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, a national organisation representing the interests of the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and engaging on religious, social and national issues.
