Sunday Igboho Unveils Iru Ekun Security Outfit In Oyo
Sunday Igboho has launched the Iru Ekun Security Network in Ibadan, expanding the community security initiative across South-West Nigeria.
Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has unveiled the Iru Ekun Security Network in Oyo State as part of efforts to strengthen community security and combat criminal activities across the South-West.
The launch took place on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the state capital, attracting supporters and volunteers interested in the security initiative.
According to a statement from Igboho’s media office, the organisation has attracted no fewer than 20,000 volunteers. The network is intended to support efforts against kidnapping, banditry, killings and other security threats affecting communities, particularly rural settlements and farming areas.
The Oyo launch follows similar inaugurations in Osun, Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun and Ondo states, as the organisation expands its presence across the region.
Igboho said his recent visit to Abuja was connected to efforts to strengthen the network’s responsibilities and improve its operational capacity. He described the initiative as one developed through engagement with traditional rulers and other stakeholders concerned about security in Yorubaland.
He also commended the turnout of volunteers, saying their participation reflected public interest in protecting lives and property irrespective of ethnic background, religion or political affiliation.
The organisation has stated that it intends to work alongside conventional security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services, to address criminal activities. However, its operations will depend on appropriate coordination with relevant authorities and compliance with applicable laws.
Iru Ekun, a Yoruba expression meaning “the tail of a leopard,” was introduced earlier in 2026, with Igboho presenting it as a community-based security initiative designed to complement existing security structures.
The outfit’s expansion comes amid continuing concerns about kidnapping, banditry and attacks on rural communities in parts of the South-West. Its effectiveness will depend on training, discipline, clear operational responsibilities and cooperation with established security agencies.
At the Ibadan event, Igboho also urged supporters to back President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming election, bringing a political appeal into the security network’s launch.
