Storm Collapses Three Transmission Towers in Nasarawa
Three transmission towers have collapsed along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV line in Nasarawa, disrupting bulk electricity supply to parts of Keffi and Akwanga.
Three transmission towers have collapsed along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line in Nasarawa State following rainy and windy conditions, disrupting electricity supply to parts of the state.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the incident occurred at about 4:06 p.m. on Wednesday when the transmission line tripped on overcurrent relay protection.
The affected towers, identified as T78, T79 and T80, are located along the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line corridor.
TCN said the collapse forced it to isolate the affected line for safety reasons, leaving all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and 132/33kV Akwanga transmission substations unavailable.
The development means electricity distribution companies cannot nominate load on the affected feeders until the damaged transmission infrastructure is repaired and bulk power supply restored.
The company said its engineers had been deployed to the affected location to assess the extent of the damage and determine the materials and other requirements needed to commence restoration work.
TCN did not provide a definite timeline for restoration, saying the duration would depend on the outcome of the technical assessment and the repairs required.
It apologised to electricity customers affected by the disruption and assured them that efforts were being made to complete the necessary repairs and restore bulk power supply as quickly as possible.
The company said it would provide further updates as restoration efforts progressed.
