Sporting Lagos Hold Kano Pillars to 1-1 Draw in Kano
Sporting Lagos secured a point away from home after drawing 1-1 with Kano Pillars in their NPFL Matchday 7 encounter, with goalkeeper Clinton Lawani making several important saves.
Sporting Lagos played out a 1-1 draw with Kano Pillars in a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 7 encounter at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Saturday.
Sporting Lagos goalkeeper Clinton Lawani was instrumental in helping the visitors secure a point, making several saves as Kano Pillars applied pressure during the game.
Kano Pillars started brightly, with veteran midfielder Rabiu Alli forcing Lawani into a save from a free-kick in the 17th minute.
The goalkeeper was called into action again three minutes later as the hosts continued to press for the opening goal.
Sporting Lagos, however, took the lead against the run of play in first-half stoppage time when Valentine Ugwu reacted quickest to a rebound in the box following a well-worked move from midfield.
The hosts responded shortly after the restart, with Abdullahi Musa restoring parity four minutes into the second half.
Sporting Lagos had an opportunity to regain the lead when Aliyu Baba found space inside the box, but he was unable to convert from a tight angle.
Kano Pillars continued to search for a winner, with Alli again testing Lawani from a free-kick, but the Sporting Lagos goalkeeper produced another calm save to keep his side level.
Neither side could find the decisive goal as the match ended 1-1.
The result means both teams have now recorded three consecutive draws in the league, as Sporting Lagos continue their campaign with a point earned on the road.
