Sowore Raises Alarm as Stolen Phone Is Traced Opposite Ekiti Governor’s Office

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has raised concerns after a mobile phone allegedly stolen from a member of his team during an attack in Ado-Ekiti was traced to a location opposite the Ekiti State Governor’s Office.

Sowore disclosed this on Sunday, November 1, 2026, saying two devices taken during the incident on Friday had been tracked to locations within the state capital.

According to the activist, one phone was traced to a location directly opposite the governor’s office, while the second device was located opposite Fajuyi Park in Ado-Ekiti.

Describing the findings as disturbing, Sowore renewed his demand for the release of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from Tawakalitu Restaurant, where he and members of his team said they were attacked.

“The Nigeria Police Force and the DSS have yet to release the CCTV footage seized from Tawakalitu Restaurant, where we were attacked,” he said, calling on the agencies to make the recordings public.

The incident occurred on Friday, October 30, shortly after Sowore participated in a radio interview in Ado-Ekiti. He alleged that armed men attacked him and his associates, assaulted members of his team and stole personal belongings, including mobile phones.

The Ekiti State Police Command, however, initially described the incident as an altercation at the restaurant and denied reports that Sowore had been kidnapped. The command said officers responded to the incident and ensured that those involved received medical attention.

On Saturday, police announced the arrest of 11 suspects in connection with the alleged attack. Police spokesperson Abutu Sunday said the suspects were arrested in the Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti following a tip-off.

The police said several items, including 13 mobile phones, two walkie-talkies, ATM cards and vehicle keys, were recovered during the operation. Investigations are continuing to establish the suspects’ individual roles and identify others who may have been involved.

The Ekiti State Government has distanced itself from the incident and called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation.

Sowore’s latest disclosure has intensified calls for transparency over the incident. However, the reported phone-tracking locations do not by themselves establish who possesses the devices or whether anyone at the governor’s office was involved in the alleged attack.

The police and the Department of State Services had not publicly addressed Sowore’s latest demand for the CCTV footage in the reports reviewed.
