Soludo Hails Tinubu Over Approval of Two Major South-East Roads
Governor Charles Soludo has praised President Bola Tinubu for approving the design and procurement of two major South-East federal roads, describing the projects as transformative for regional connectivity and development.
Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the design and procurement of two major federal road projects in the South-East, describing the decision as a significant step toward rebuilding the region and strengthening national integration.
Soludo disclosed this in a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Thursday.
According to the governor, the approvals followed a meeting he held with President Tinubu on July 1 and subsequent discussions with the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.
He explained that after the meeting, Umahi contacted him and requested details of priority federal roads discussed with the President.
Soludo said he submitted two proposals on July 3: the dualisation of the 108-kilometre Otuocha–Anam–Abaji Road linking Anambra and Kogi states, and the 150-kilometre Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube (Okigwe Junction) Road, which connects Anambra and Imo states to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway through Abia State.
According to him, the Minister informed him on July 15 that President Tinubu had approved both projects for design and procurement.
The governor described the road projects as critical infrastructure that would improve transportation, enhance regional connectivity and stimulate economic activities across the South-East, South-South and North-Central zones.
He also said the approvals reflected the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing infrastructure deficits in the South-East while promoting national unity.
Soludo argued that improving federal road infrastructure in the region would facilitate trade, reduce travel time and strengthen commercial links between several states.
While appreciating the President for the approvals, the governor expressed optimism that the projects would contribute to the long-term development of the region.
He further commended the Minister of Works for engaging with the state government throughout the process and ensuring that the requests received prompt consideration.
“The man who tamed the Atlantic Ocean in Lagos is certainly redefining politics, and the South-East won’t be the same again,” Soludo said while reacting to the approvals.
The projects are expected to undergo the design and procurement process before construction commences as part of the Federal Government’s ongoing road infrastructure development programme across the country.
