Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a cash gift of N20 million each for the overall best graduating students of Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions. The beneficiaries, Ayilara Olawale and Adebanjo Oluolamide, graduated with First Class honours and CGPAs of 4.96 and 4.97 respectively.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a cash gift of N20 million each for the overall best graduating students of Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions.
Sanwo-Olu made the announcement on Wednesday during the university’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremonies at the LASU main campus in Ojo.
The beneficiaries are Ayilara Olawale, the best graduating student for the 2024/2025 academic session, and Adebanjo Oluolamide, who emerged as the overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 session.
Olawale, a Project Management Technology graduate, finished with a 4.96 CGPA and First Class honours, while Oluolamide, an Aerospace Engineering graduate, recorded a 4.97 CGPA, also graduating with First Class honours.
Sanwo-Olu said the N20 million award to each graduate was his personal donation in recognition of their outstanding academic performance.
The governor announced the reward as the university celebrated thousands of graduating students across the two academic sessions.
The development comes days after Oluolamide received a separate N10 million cash prize from the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme for emerging as LASU’s overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 session.
LASU said more than 20,000 students would graduate across the two academic sessions, including 494 First Class graduates.
The governor’s gesture is expected to further encourage academic excellence among students and recognise outstanding performance at the state-owned university.
