Russia Thrash Namibia 6-0 Ahead of Super Eagles Clash
Russia scored five second-half goals to complete a commanding victory over Namibia before facing Nigeria on Tuesday.
Russia warmed up for their international friendly against Nigeria’s Super Eagles with a convincing 6-0 victory over Namibia on Saturday.
The Russians dominated the second half at the Yekaterinburg Arena after taking a narrow lead into the interval, scoring five unanswered goals to complete a comprehensive win.
Lechi Sadulaev opened the scoring in the 37th minute, cutting inside from the edge of the box before firing into the far corner.
Russia doubled their advantage nine minutes after the restart when Danil Prutsev found the bottom corner from inside the penalty area.
Konstantin Tyukavin then made it 3-0 in the 65th minute before Maksim Glushenkov added a fourth six minutes from regulation time.
Maksim Petrov increased the advantage to five in the 87th minute after converting a penalty, while Namibia’s night ended on a worse note in stoppage time when goalkeeper Kamaijanda Ndisiro turned the ball into his own net.
The result gave Russia a major confidence boost ahead of their meeting with the Super Eagles, with the team now preparing to travel to Nizhny Novgorod for Tuesday’s encounter.
Russia had earlier defeated Iran 2-0 in Kazan on September 29, meaning they have scored eight goals without conceding in their two matches during the current international window.
Nigeria, meanwhile, head into the friendly looking to respond after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
The Super Eagles had earlier opened their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar but were beaten heavily in Bissau in their second game.
The October 6 friendly will be the second meeting between Russia and Nigeria. Their previous encounter ended in a 1-1 draw in Moscow in June 2025.
Russia will hope their impressive attacking display against Namibia carries into Tuesday’s meeting, while Nigeria will be seeking a stronger performance against the hosts.
The match is scheduled to take place at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium as both sides conclude their October international assignments.
