Ruiz Quits Spain Squad to Attend Arrival of His First Baby

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabián Ruiz has left the Spain national team camp to travel to Paris for the birth of his first child.

The Spanish Football Federation confirmed on Saturday that the 30-year-old midfielder departed the team’s camp in Oviedo ahead of Spain’s Nations League match against the Czech Republic.

Ruiz will miss the encounter at the Carlos Tartiere Stadium after leaving the squad to be with his partner for the arrival of their first baby.

The midfielder had been part of Spain’s starting lineup in their opening two matches of the current international window, helping the world champions secure victories over England and Croatia.

Spain defeated England 3-2 before recording a 4-1 victory over Croatia, with Ruiz starting both matches.

His departure means Spain will be without another important member of their squad for the meeting with the Czech Republic.

The Spanish Football Federation did not immediately confirm whether Ruiz would return to the national team camp after the birth in time for Spain’s next fixture.

Spain are scheduled to face Croatia again on Tuesday in Split in their final match of the current international window.

Ruiz has established himself as an important member of Spain’s midfield following a successful period at club and international level.

The Paris Saint-Germain player was also part of Spain’s squad during their successful 2026 World Cup campaign and has remained involved in the national team under head coach Luis de la Fuente.

His decision to leave the camp comes as Spain deal with several other absences during the international break.

Defenders and forwards have also withdrawn from the squad because of injuries or other selection issues, reducing the number of available players for the Czech Republic fixture.

Despite his absence, Spain will be expected to continue their Nations League campaign with the players available to De la Fuente.

The federation said Ruiz’s departure was specifically to attend the birth of his first child and did not indicate that the midfielder had left because of an injury.

The midfielder’s temporary departure has attracted attention in Spain, with reports describing it as a personal decision to be present for an important family moment.

Ruiz is expected to remain in Paris for the birth, while the Spanish coaching staff will assess the squad ahead of Tuesday’s meeting with Croatia.

The federation is yet to clarify whether Ruiz will rejoin the squad for that match.

For now, the PSG midfielder’s focus is on welcoming his first child, bringing a personal milestone into the middle of Spain’s Nations League campaign.
