Ronaldo Resumes Al Nassr Training After Portugal Camp Rift
Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to Al Nassr training as attention shifts to club football following his dramatic Portugal departure.
Cristiano Ronaldo has resumed training with Al Nassr after leaving Portugal’s camp during the international break following a reported dispute with head coach Jorge Jesus.
The 41-year-old forward returned to the Saudi club on Monday and trained with his teammates as he prepares for Al Nassr’s Saudi Pro League fixture against Al Diriyah on Friday, October 9.
Al Nassr confirmed Ronaldo’s return by sharing photographs of the captain in training with the caption, “The GOAT. In the heart of Najd.” Ronaldo also posted pictures from the session on his social media accounts.
Ronaldo’s return to club duty comes days after he abruptly left Portugal’s training camp in Copenhagen on September 30. The departure followed growing tension with Jesus after the forward was left on the bench during Portugal’s Nations League victory over Norway.
Jesus later indicated that Ronaldo would not start Portugal’s next match against Denmark. Ronaldo subsequently announced that he had decided to leave the camp after the coach’s press conference and a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença.
The veteran forward said he would explain the reasons for his departure to the Portuguese public “in due course.”
Portugal went on to beat Denmark 4-2 and Norway 2-1 without Ronaldo, securing a place in the Nations League quarter-finals.
Despite the controversy, Jesus has left the door open for Ronaldo to return to the national team, saying the decision would ultimately rest with the player. Proença has also described the incident as a misunderstanding and maintained that Ronaldo remains part of Portugal’s plans on sporting merit.
For now, Ronaldo’s focus has shifted back to Al Nassr, where he will prepare for the club’s next league assignment under manager Ange Postecoglou.
The episode has nevertheless left questions over Ronaldo’s future with Portugal, with the next international window in November expected to provide a clearer indication of whether the captain will return to the squad.
