Ronaldinho Returns To Football With Italian Third-Tier Club

Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho is set to return to competitive football after more than a decade away from the professional game, with Italian third-tier club Ravenna confirming November 15, 2026, as the date of his comeback.

The former Barcelona and AC Milan playmaker, who turns 46 this year, is expected to feature when Ravenna face local rivals Forlì in a Serie C derby at the Stadio Bruno Benelli.

Ravenna announced the date on Saturday, describing the occasion as a major event expected to attract international attention. The club had signed the Brazilian in June, although uncertainty remained over when he would make his first competitive appearance.

Ronaldinho last played professionally for Brazilian club Fluminense in 2015 before officially announcing his retirement in 2018. His return will mark his first competitive appearance in more than 11 years.

The former Brazil international remains one of football’s most celebrated figures, having won the 2002 FIFA World Cup and the 2005 Ballon d’Or. During his career, he also won the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona and the Serie A title with AC Milan.

Known for his creativity, close control, dazzling dribbling and trademark smile, Ronaldinho became a global star during his time at Barcelona, where he helped the Spanish club win major honours and influenced a generation of footballers.

His move to Ravenna also includes a business connection. The Brazilian has acquired a stake in the club, which is owned by his friend Ignazio Cipriani. The arrangement is intended to increase the club’s visibility and strengthen its connection with supporters.

When Ronaldinho arrived in Italy in August for the club’s presentation, he stopped short of confirming when he would play but said he was there to help. He has also expressed interest in reaching 300 career goals.

Ravenna are competing in Group B of Italy’s Serie C and are targeting promotion to Serie B, where the club last played during the 2007–08 season.

The match against Forlì will provide supporters with an opportunity to see the Brazilian great return to competitive action, more than a decade after his last professional appearance.
