Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have successfully rescued a group of worshippers abducted in Ekiti State, in a swift operation that has brought relief to the affected families and the wider community.

The victims, who were seized while returning from a church programme, were rescued unharmed after a coordinated security operation involving tactical teams from the Ekiti State Police Command.

According to police sources, the abductors were trailed to a location within the state, where the victims were being held. The timely intervention of the security team forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee the scene.

Confirming the rescue, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Ekiti State Command stated that the victims have been reunited with their families after receiving necessary medical checks and debriefing.

The command has launched a manhunt for the fleeing kidnappers and urged members of the public to provide credible information that could lead to their arrest.

The incident is the latest in a series of abduction cases reported in parts of Ekiti State, prompting renewed calls for stronger security measures around worship centres and rural communities.

Security agencies have intensified patrols and intelligence operations in vulnerable areas following the recent wave of kidnappings targeting residents, including worshippers and schoolchildren.

The Ekiti State Government has consistently maintained a zero-tolerance stance on kidnapping, with Governor Biodun Oyebanji directing security agencies to treat such cases as priority matters requiring immediate response.

Stakeholders, including religious leaders and community groups, have welcomed the successful rescue while calling for sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the state.

The police have appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency hotlines.
