The Zamfara State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing offensive against kidnapping and banditry, securing the unconditional release of five travellers abducted by armed bandits.
The victims were reportedly seized while commuting along the Anka–Bukkuyum Road, an axis in the state that has frequently been targeted by criminal elements.
According to police sources, tactical operatives swiftly mobilised to the area and initiated a coordinated search and rescue operation upon receiving intelligence about the abduction. The intense pressure from the advancing security forces reportedly forced the bandits to abandon their captives and flee into the surrounding forest.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Zamfara State Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the successful operation, reaffirming the command's proactive measures to stem the tide of highway kidnappings in the state.
Following their rescue, the five travellers were safely evacuated to a secure facility in Gusau. Authorities confirmed that the victims underwent necessary medical examinations and preliminary debriefings to assess their physical and psychological well-being before being reunited with their respective families.
The Zamfara State Police Command reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and property of citizens. The command noted that police operatives, working in synergy with other security agencies, have intensified confidence-building patrols and clearance operations across identified black spots and volatile routes within the state.
Residents and commuters have been urged to remain vigilant and to continuously provide credible, real-time intelligence to security agencies to aid in tracking down fleeing criminal elements and preventing future attacks.
