The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man, Monday Dauda, for allegedly vandalising an electricity transformer belonging to the Jos Electricity Distribution Company in Bogoro Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was reportedly arrested while attempting to remove an armoured cable from a transformer located within the premises of Bogoro General Hospital.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday, explaining that the incident occurred at about 12:30 am on October 8.

According to the statement, a patrol team attached to the Bogoro Divisional Headquarters was conducting a routine confidence-building patrol when officers noticed suspicious movements around the transformer.

The officers approached the location to investigate and allegedly discovered that Dauda had removed the transformer’s armoured cable and attached it to a motorcycle, apparently preparing to transport it away.

The suspect was pursued and arrested by the patrol team, the police spokesman said.

Habib added that the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime during interrogation. The recovered armoured cable and motorcycle were taken into police custody as exhibits.

The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting critical infrastructure against vandalism.

He directed that the suspect and recovered exhibits be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The police urged the public to support efforts to safeguard public infrastructure and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
