Police, DSS Seized CCTV Footage of Ado-Ekiti Attack — Sowore Alleges

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Ekiti State Police Command and the Department of State Services (DSS) of seizing CCTV footage allegedly showing individuals who attacked him and members of his team in Ado-Ekiti.

Sowore made the allegation in a post on his verified X account on Friday, saying the footage was taken from the owner of the restaurant where the incident occurred.

According to him, the recordings captured the attackers, but he alleged that security agencies were attempting to suppress the evidence to protect those responsible.

“The Ekiti State Police Command and the DSS have seized the CCTV footage from the owner of the restaurant where we were brutally attacked in Ado-Ekiti,” he wrote.

He added that the attackers had been captured on camera and accused the agencies of attempting to prevent the evidence from being used to identify and prosecute those involved.

The allegation followed an incident at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, where Sowore and members of his team reportedly sustained injuries.

During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the AAC candidate recounted how about 20 individuals allegedly attacked them with sticks and bottles. He also accused the attackers of threatening that he would be killed if he returned to Ekiti State.

The Ekiti State Police Command, however, gave a different account of the incident, describing it as an altercation between Sowore and some individuals at a restaurant in the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti.

The police said operatives responded to an alert, rescued him and took him to the Police Hospital, where he received treatment for what the command described as a minor injury. The Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, was said to have ordered an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Sowore has rejected the police description of the incident, insisting that he and his team were attacked.

As of the time of filing this report, the police and DSS had not publicly responded to his specific allegation that they seized the CCTV footage.
