Police Arrest Two Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Rivers Victim After ₦10.3m Ransom
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate after rescuing a victim who was held captive for three days before his relatives paid ₦10.3 million ransom.
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate allegedly involved in the abduction of a resident identified as Mr Hassan.
The suspects, identified as 24-year-old Victor Ifeanyi, also known as “Big Boby”, and 36-year-old Aniekan Okon Michael, also known as “Duff Man”, were arrested by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU-AKU) following an intelligence-led operation.
The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said in a statement on Monday that Hassan was abducted on September 6, 2026, around the vicinity of Fidelity Bank, Garrison, Port Harcourt.
She said the victim was taken to Igbugulu Waterside, Borikiri, where he was held captive for three days before his relatives reportedly paid ₦10.3 million to secure his release.
According to her, the Command received credible information about the abduction on September 7 and commenced investigations and intelligence-led operations to identify those responsible.
The operation subsequently led to the arrest of Ifeanyi and Michael, whom the police described as suspected members of the syndicate.
The Command said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement in the abduction.
They reportedly told investigators that the gang comprised six members and used a white minibus, popularly known as a Keke bus, during the operation.
The police said efforts had been intensified to apprehend the four remaining members of the syndicate and bring them to justice.
The Commissioner of Police in Rivers, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, urged residents to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in identifying and apprehending suspected criminals.
Adepoju assured members of the public that information provided to the police would be treated confidentially.
He also reiterated the Command’s commitment to deploying intelligence-led operations to disrupt kidnapping syndicates and other criminal networks operating across the state.
The Commissioner urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
