The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of belonging to a gang accused of robbing residents and inflicting machete injuries on them in Bauchi metropolis.

The suspects, identified as Salisu Ibrahim, 19, and Shuaibu A. Ladan, 21, were arrested over alleged armed robbery and causing grievous hurt following an attack on two residents of the state capital.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the arrests formed part of efforts to tackle thuggery and violent crimes in the state.

Habib said the victims, residents of Unguwar Mahaukata and Unguwar Kur, reported the incident to the Violent Crimes Response Unit, Hawk Base, on October 24, 2026.

According to the police, the victims were attacked at about 9 p.m. by a gang of approximately nine suspected thugs armed with cutlasses and sticks, who allegedly dispossessed them of their valuables.

The stolen items included an Infinix Smart 10 valued at ₦120,000, a Nokia Android phone worth ₦65,000, a Tecno Spark 40 valued at ₦95,000 and an Infinix Hot i worth ₦60,000.

The assailants allegedly inflicted machete wounds on the victims’ heads and hands, leaving them with varying degrees of injuries.

Habib said operatives attached to Hawk Base launched an operation following the report, tracing and arresting the two suspects, both of whom reside in Unguwar Hardo, Bauchi.

He added that the suspects allegedly confessed during interrogation to being members of the gang involved in the robbery. The police also recovered one cutlass suspected to have been used in the attack.

The command said efforts had been intensified to apprehend the fleeing accomplices and recover the stolen mobile phones.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.

Aliyu reiterated the command’s commitment to combating thuggery, gang-related activities and other violent crimes, assuring residents that security operations would continue across the state.

The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime and protecting lives and property.
