The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an armed robbery gang over the killing of a 44-year-old woman during an attack in Ibadan.
The suspects, identified as Akinrinola Oluwatobi, 28; Okunola Mathew, 24; and Ibrahim Rabiu, 23, were arrested at a suspected hideout in the Sabo area of Ibadan on Friday.
The command said the suspects were linked to the robbery attack at the residence of Alhaji Olatokunbo in the Wofun Olodo area of Ibadan on Aug. 4, 2026.
According to the police, the attack occurred at about 2:30 a.m., resulting in the death of Mrs Wahab Rukayat, while other occupants of the residence sustained serious injuries.
The robbers allegedly stole several mobile phones, wristwatches, $400 and other valuables estimated at N3.493 million.
The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, subsequently directed that the case be transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit for investigation.
The command said operatives of the unit launched an intelligence-led investigation, aided by technology, which led to the arrest of the three suspects at about 9 p.m. on Oct. 2.
An iPhone 7 Plus belonging to one of the victims was recovered from the suspects, while surviving victims reportedly identified them during an identification parade.
The police said the suspects confessed to their involvement in the robbery and killing, including their respective roles in the operation and the collection of the stolen N3.493 million.
The suspects also allegedly confessed to participating in other robbery operations around Wofun Olodo and Akobo areas of Ibadan.
The Commissioner of Police directed the VCRU and other relevant units to intensify efforts to arrest other members of the gang and apprehend individuals allegedly involved in receiving or disposing of proceeds from their criminal activities.
