Reality TV star Phyna made history on Thursday night, knocking out actress Nkechi Blessing in the fourth round of Nigeria’s first-ever female celebrity boxing bout at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos. Reality television star Josephina “Phyna” Otabor made history on Thursday night, becoming the winner of Nigeria’s first-ever female celebrity boxing bout after defeating actress Nkechi Blessing by a fourth-round technical knockout at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The fight, part of Balmoral Promotions’ “Chaos in the Ring” Independence Day event, saw Phyna dominate the scheduled four-round contest before the referee stopped the bout, handing her the victory and a ₦50 million prize. The former Big Brother Naija winner wasted little time in calling out her next target, naming Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia as her preferred opponent and accusing her of sending disturbing direct messages. “I came in, and I kept my cool and did the thing. Now I would like to fight Etinosa. I think it is time I teach her a lesson,” Phyna said after the fight. Etinosa, who watched the knockout from ringside, accepted the challenge without hesitation, declaring, “I have been advising you to carry the Edo name with pride. We do not run from any fight. I accept the challenge fully.” Phyna also hinted that the victory could mark the beginning of a professional boxing career.

The victory over Nkechi Blessing capped weeks of escalating tension between the two celebrities, who had traded insults and threats in the build-up to the fight. Their rivalry reached a boiling point at a pre-fight press conference, where a birthday cake presentation for Carter Efe ended with Speed Darlington kicking it to the ground, while Phyna and Nkechi Blessing engaged in a physical altercation that saw a raw egg and a water bottle thrown. The bad blood carried into the ring, where Phyna’s composure and superior conditioning proved decisive.

In the second celebrity bout of the night, skit maker Carter Efe extended his unbeaten run in the “Chaos in the Ring” series with a technical knockout victory over musician Speed Darlington. Efe dominated the four-round contest before the referee stopped the fight after Speed Darlington stopped moving. The win came five months after Efe defeated singer Habeeb “Portable” Badmus by unanimous decision at the same venue on May 1, 2026. The rivalry between Efe and Speed Darlington had intensified in the weeks leading up to the fight, with both entertainers trading hostile remarks before settling their differences inside the ring.

The night’s main event delivered its own drama as Ghanaian boxer Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah dethroned Nigerian champion Godday “Zodsolo” Appah by unanimous decision to claim the WBO African Light Heavyweight Continental Championship. The loss was a bitter blow for Appah, who had vowed to defend Nigerian pride against his Ghanaian challenger. Gyimah’s victory added a continental championship upset to an already unpredictable night of combat sports.

The “Chaos in the Ring” event, organised by Balmoral Group Promotions, combined celebrity clashes with professional boxing, drawing a star-studded crowd to the Federal Palace Hotel. The fight card was broadcast live on SuperSport and DAZN, with Bet9ja powering the event. The inclusion of a female celebrity bout for the first time in the series’ history marked a significant milestone for women’s participation in combat sports entertainment in Nigeria.

For Phyna, the victory represents more than just a prize purse. It is a statement of intent. The reality TV star, who has built a reputation for her outspoken personality and willingness to confront controversy, has now demonstrated that she can back up her words with action inside the ring. Her call-out to Etinosa Idemudia suggests that her boxing career may be far from over, and the prospect of another high-profile celebrity showdown is already generating significant buzz across social media.

Nkechi Blessing, meanwhile, has yet to issue a formal statement on the defeat, though her participation in the bout and the build-up to the fight ensured that the event captured widespread attention. The loss will undoubtedly sting for the actress, who had confidently predicted victory in the weeks leading up to the fight.

As the dust settles on a night of high drama, the “Chaos in the Ring” series has once again delivered on its promise of entertainment, rivalry, and spectacle. With Phyna’s historic victory, Carter Efe’s continued dominance, and Gyimah’s championship upset, the Independence Day event will be remembered as one of the most eventful fight cards in the series’ history. The question now is whether Phyna’s challenge to Etinosa will materialise, and if so, whether the reality star can continue her winning streak in the ring. For now, the champion has made her intentions clear, and the boxing world is watching.
