The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate in Ogun State, Hajia Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, and the wife of the party’s governorship candidate, Mrs Adenike Adebutu, have gifted a retired traffic officer, Mrs Anifat Bello, N1 million for her dedication to duty.

The presentation was made on Sunday at a reception and dinner organised by Sowunmi-Kolapo for Bello at Obantoko, Abeokuta.

Sowunmi-Kolapo commended Bello for her professionalism, discipline, resilience and commitment to traffic management during her years of service with the Ogun State Police Command.

She presented a cheque of N500,000 to the retired officer, describing her dedication to duty as exceptional and worthy of emulation.

The PDP deputy governorship candidate urged other security personnel and workers to emulate Bello’s commitment to public service.

She also said workers in Ogun State would receive improved welfare packages if the PDP candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, became governor after the 2027 election.

Mrs Adebutu subsequently announced an additional N500,000 cash support for Bello, bringing the total gift to N1 million.

She praised the retired traffic officer for maintaining a cheerful disposition and dedication while carrying out her duties on the roads.

Mrs Adebutu also said Bello would be part of the Adebutu administration if the PDP candidate was elected governor in 2027.

Other dignitaries, including Ogun PDP Chairman, Dr Abayomi Tella, party leaders and religious figures in Egbaland, also praised Bello for her diligent service.

Tella described her selflessness and concern for others as qualities that should be emulated by public servants.

The Ogun PDP Secretary, Alhaji Semiu Sodipo, said Bello was also known for refusing to accept bribes while performing her duties, describing the attribute as worthy of recognition.

Bello and her family expressed appreciation for the recognition and financial support, while the retired officer urged workers, particularly young people, to remain diligent in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Bello had recently attracted public attention after a video showing residents celebrating her final day in uniform went viral.

She has also been honoured by the Inspector-General of Police, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police and the Accord Party for her dedication to duty.
