Parliament passes amended Anti-Corruption Bill after three-day debate
Ghana's Parliament has passed the amended Office of the Special Prosecutor Bill, strengthening the independence and prosecutorial powers of the anti-corruption body.
Ghana's Parliament has passed the amended Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) Bill after three days of robust debate, granting the anti-corruption agency greater independence and expanded prosecutorial powers.
The legislation, passed by 183 votes to 47, removes the requirement for the Attorney General's consent before prosecutions may commence and introduces asset declaration obligations for a wider category of public officials.
Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson welcomed the passage while calling for adequate funding. "Laws without resources are merely aspirations," he said.
