Oyo Doctors Suspend Strike, Resume Work After One Week
The Association of Medical and Dental Officers of Oyo State has suspended its one-week strike and directed members to resume clinical duties while negotiations with the state government continue.
The Association of Medical and Dental Officers (AMDO), Oyo State chapter, has suspended its one-week industrial action and directed members to return to work.
The doctors, who began the strike on October 26, resumed duty on Monday, November 2, following a resolution reached at an emergency congress held on Sunday.
Medical officers have returned to their duty posts at several health facilities, including Ring Road State Hospital, Government Chest Hospital, Jericho Specialist Hospital and Oni Memorial Children Hospital.
The industrial action was triggered by demands for improved welfare packages, payment of outstanding allowances and recruitment of additional medical officers to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.
AMDO General Secretary, Dr Abdulazeez Gbadamosi, said the decision to suspend the strike followed deliberations at the emergency congress.
He said the association’s executive council appreciated members for complying with the industrial action and maintaining confidence in its leadership.
Gbadamosi also acknowledged the contributions of elders who participated in mediation efforts, noting that their intervention had helped restore some level of industrial harmony.
He explained that the congress resolved to suspend the strike from November 2 to November 15 to provide room for further negotiations.
The general secretary consequently directed members to resume full clinical activities from 8am on Monday.
He added that the association would review progress made during the negotiations at a later date.
