‘One of My Outstanding Ministers’ — Tinubu Celebrates Umahi on 63rd Birthday
President Tinubu praises Works Minister David Umahi’s dedication, urging faster delivery of critical road infrastructure nationwide.
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Minister of Works, David Umahi, on his 63rd birthday, describing him as one of the most outstanding and hardworking members of his cabinet.
Umahi, who was born on July 25, 1963, marked his 63rd birthday on Saturday.
In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu commended the former Ebonyi State governor for his commitment to infrastructure development and his hands-on approach to supervising ongoing projects across the country.
The President said Umahi has demonstrated passion, dedication and patriotism since assuming office as Minister of Works, noting that his contributions align with the administration’s vision of modernising Nigeria’s transport infrastructure.
Tinubu described the minister as someone who is deeply committed to delivering durable roads and bridges capable of serving Nigerians for generations.
According to the President, Umahi’s work ethic distinguishes him from many public office holders because he frequently leaves his office to personally inspect construction sites rather than relying solely on reports from officials.
“As a minister, he does not just sit in his office or rely on reports from subordinates; he is constantly on the road, personally monitoring construction work nationwide to ensure compliance with specifications and approvals,” Tinubu stated.
The President also urged Umahi to sustain the pace of road construction and rehabilitation across the country in line with the Federal Government’s infrastructure agenda.
He stressed that improved road networks remain central to his administration’s efforts to enhance the quality of life of Nigerians, facilitate economic growth and improve connectivity between communities.
Tinubu further wished the minister good health, renewed strength and greater success as he continues to serve the nation.
Before joining the Federal Executive Council, Umahi represented Ebonyi South Senatorial District in the Senate after completing two terms as governor of Ebonyi State between 2015 and 2023.
His tenure as governor was widely associated with extensive road construction and infrastructure projects across the state.
Since becoming Minister of Works, Umahi has overseen several major federal road and bridge projects aimed at improving transportation and supporting national development.
The President’s birthday message comes amid ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Works to accelerate the completion of strategic highway projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda, with the Federal Government prioritising infrastructure as a key driver of economic transformation and national integration.
