Edo State Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, has commended teachers across the state for their dedication, sacrifices and commitment to educating the next generation.
Okpebholo made the commendation in a message on Monday to mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, assuring teachers that his administration would continue to prioritise their welfare and improve the education sector.
The governor said teachers played a crucial role in the development of every society, noting that meaningful progress depended on investing in those responsible for preparing children and young people for the future.
He thanked public school teachers for their service and patriotism, saying their responsibilities extended beyond classroom instruction to shaping the values, skills and character of future leaders.
Okpebholo said his administration recognised the challenges faced by teachers and would continue to take practical measures to improve their working conditions.
He said quality education depended on motivated and adequately supported teachers, adding that the government would continue to invest in teachers, schools and the wider education system.
The governor disclosed that his administration had absorbed 5,000 contract teachers into the state civil service, giving them greater job security.
He also said 6,000 teachers had been recruited to address staffing shortages in public schools across the state.
Okpebholo said the recruitment was necessary to ensure that schools, including those in rural communities, had sufficient numbers of qualified teachers.
He congratulated teachers across Edo State on the occasion and thanked them for their continued service to children and the state.
