Ogah Backs Gov. Nwifuru on Establishment of New Abakaliki Cement Factory
Chinedu Ogah backs Governor Nwifuru’s proposed Abakaliki cement factory, citing its potential to create jobs, reduce unemployment and stimulate industrial growth.
The member representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, has expressed support for Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru’s initiative to establish a new Abakaliki cement factory, describing the project as an opportunity to address unemployment and stimulate economic growth.
Ogah’s support for the proposed cement plant reflects expectations that the project could create employment opportunities for young people and contribute to the state’s industrial development.
The proposed factory is part of the Nwifuru administration’s broader industrialisation agenda, aimed at strengthening Ebonyi State’s productive capacity, attracting investment and expanding economic opportunities for residents.
The state government initiated plans for the new facility amid efforts to address challenges associated with the long-dormant Nigeria Cement Company (NIGERCEM) in Nkalagu.
The proposed project is expected to generate employment, increase economic activities and strengthen Ebonyi State’s position in Nigeria’s cement production industry.
Ogah has maintained that establishing a new cement factory, alongside efforts to address the challenges facing NIGERCEM, could help meet the employment needs of Ebonyi residents, particularly young people seeking sustainable livelihoods.
Beyond direct employment, the factory could create opportunities across related sectors, including transportation, construction, equipment maintenance, product distribution and other supporting businesses.
Governor Nwifuru has identified industrialisation as a key component of his administration’s development strategy. The state government has pursued the establishment of the new cement plant as part of efforts to diversify the economy and strengthen local production.
The governor announced in September that construction had commenced on the proposed Abakaliki Cement Factory at Nkalagu in Ishielu Local Government Area, with completion projected within 27 months.
The development has also generated optimism among stakeholders who anticipate that the project could stimulate local commerce, attract investment and expand economic opportunities in surrounding communities.
However, the factory’s long-term economic impact will depend on successful construction, operational efficiency, investment sustainability and demand for its products.
For Ebonyi State, the proposed cement plant represents an effort to expand industrial activity, create employment opportunities and strengthen the local economy.
