Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has visited the family of former governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan to express his condolences following the death of the former leader on October 19, aged 71.

Oborevwori, accompanied by his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, and senior government officials, visited Uduaghan’s widow, Roli, and other members of the family at their residence.

The governor had earlier joined relatives and other dignitaries, including Uduaghan’s daughter, Orode, and former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, to receive the deceased’s remains at Osubi Airport.

During the condolence visit, Oborevwori described Uduaghan as a great leader whose contributions to Delta State would remain indelible. He recalled their political relationship, noting that the former governor appointed him Special Adviser in 2007 and supported him throughout his political journey.

Oborevwori said the large number of people who gathered to receive Uduaghan’s remains and console his family reflected the impact he had made through his years of public service.

The governor also described the late statesman as calm, articulate and thoughtful, adding that his contributions to the state’s development would not be forgotten.

Meanwhile, former Deputy Governor of Delta State Kingsley Otuaro described Uduaghan’s death as a major loss to the state and the Niger Delta region. He praised the former governor’s commitment to governance, peace and regional development, describing him as a father figure and a leader whose humility and wisdom touched many lives.

Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, also expressed shock over the death, recalling their time together in the administration of former governor James Ibori. Omo-Agege said Uduaghan was calm under pressure, humane and committed to peaceful political engagement, adding that their mutual respect endured despite their differing political paths.

Similarly, National Democratic Party candidate for the Warri Federal Constituency, Chief Mulade Sheriff, described Uduaghan’s death as a monumental loss to Delta State, the Itsekiri nation, the Niger Delta and Nigeria.

The Delta Unity Group also mourned the former governor, describing him as a unifying figure who bridged ethnic divides in the state. In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Sunny Areh, the group said Uduaghan’s leadership reflected the cultural diversity of Delta State and his commitment to bringing its communities together.

Uduaghan served as governor of Delta State from 2007 to 2015. Before becoming governor, he served as Commissioner for Health and Secretary to the State Government under the administration of James Ibori.

His death has continued to attract tributes from political leaders, associates and community groups, who have highlighted his contributions to governance, peacebuilding and development across Delta State and the Niger Delta.
