Nobody Wants Peter Obi Dead — Umahi
Works Minister David Umahi dismissed Peter Obi’s claim that his life is under threat, saying no one wants him dead and predicting electoral defeat.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has dismissed claims by the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, that political opponents want him dead, insisting that no one is threatening the former Anambra State governor.
Speaking while inspecting ongoing legacy infrastructure projects in Ebonyi State, Umahi described Obi’s remarks as unfounded and attributed them to political frustration ahead of the next general election.
According to the minister, Obi is concerned about President Bola Tinubu’s growing acceptance in the South East following the Federal Government’s infrastructure investments across the region.
“Nobody wants Obi dead, it’s not just reasonable. We all want him alive to contest this election and watch himself lose again,” Umahi said.
He argued that the South East had witnessed significant development under the Tinubu administration, contrary to Obi’s political narrative.
Umahi said the former Labour Party presidential candidate’s belief that the South East remained his exclusive political base was no longer realistic, describing the region’s voting pattern in the last election as an “accident of history.”
He maintained that visible federal projects across the South East had strengthened public support for President Tinubu and convinced many residents that the region stood to benefit more from the current administration.
“The people have now agreed with us that we are better off with President Tinubu to complete the good works he is doing for us than playing artificial intelligence kind of politics,” the minister stated.
Umahi also challenged Obi to a public debate on the achievements of the Tinubu administration, particularly on infrastructure development and the Federal Government’s engagement with the South East.
He said such a debate would provide an opportunity to present what he described as the administration’s tangible accomplishments and explain why the region should appreciate its inclusion in national development efforts.
The minister reiterated his confidence that President Tinubu’s performance would continue to earn support across the South East, adding that ongoing road and other infrastructure projects demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to the region.
Peter Obi had recently alleged that there were plots against his life, a claim that has continued to generate reactions from political figures across the country.
