No Rematch Clause for Fury vs Joshua Super-Fight
Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will meet in a one-off heavyweight showdown, with no contractual rematch provision.
Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will not have a rematch clause in their contracts when the two British heavyweight stars finally meet on December 11.
The highly anticipated all-British showdown will take place at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, with both fighters expected to enter the bout knowing that defeat could have major implications for their careers.
Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown, confirmed that the agreement currently covers only one fight. He said there could still be a second meeting depending on how the contest unfolds, but neither fighter is contractually guaranteed a rematch.
Brown added that if Fury wins, the former heavyweight champion would be interested in pursuing another fight with Oleksandr Usyk.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, also confirmed the absence of a rematch clause. He suggested, however, that the scale of the event could make a second fight difficult to rule out if the December contest becomes a major success.
For now, both camps are treating the Cardiff encounter as a one-off.
The fight is the culmination of a rivalry that has lasted almost a decade, with negotiations repeatedly failing to produce a meeting between the two former heavyweight world champions.
Both men are now in the latter stages of their careers, making the outcome particularly significant. Brown suggested that the loser could face difficult decisions about whether to continue boxing, while the winner would have the opportunity to pursue further major fights.
Fury has also spoken about his plans beyond the Joshua fight, including a possible return to the ring against Usyk if he defeats Joshua.
Joshua, meanwhile, is looking to add another major victory to his career after returning to the heavyweight scene.
The December 11 contest is expected to attract worldwide attention, with Netflix set to broadcast the event.
Although there is no contractual requirement for a rematch, both Hearn and Brown have left open the possibility of a second fight if circumstances and the commercial appeal make it possible.
For now, however, the focus remains firmly on December 11, when Fury and Joshua will finally settle their long-running rivalry inside the ring.
