Nigeria Woos 14 German Firms for Industrial Investments
Nigeria seeks investment from 14 German firms to expand industrial capacity, transfer technology and create jobs across key sectors.
The Federal Government is intensifying efforts to attract industrial investments from 14 leading German companies as Nigeria seeks to expand productive capacity, strengthen manufacturing and deepen technology transfer.
The companies, operating across the cement, mining, construction and industrial technology sectors, are exploring investment opportunities and potential partnerships with Nigerian businesses and stakeholders.
The development followed a high-level Germany-Nigeria Industrial Technology Conference, held in Abuja under the theme “Business Meets Nigeria.”
Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, said the government was seeking to transform Nigeria’s longstanding relationship with Germany into concrete investments, technology transfers and industrial partnerships.
He identified manufacturing, mining, construction, infrastructure, industrial technology, equipment and processing as sectors with significant opportunities for German investors.
Bagudu said greater private-sector participation and increased investment in productive sectors would be required to expand Nigeria’s economy and support the country’s ambition of becoming a $1tn economy by 2030.
The minister also highlighted the importance of developing investment-ready projects and creating financing arrangements capable of supporting large-scale industrial investments.
He identified export credit, development finance, commercial lending and guarantees among the financing mechanisms that could help attract and sustain investment.
Bagudu also cited Germany’s €300 million export credit guarantee framework as part of the expanding economic relationship between both countries.
The conference brought together government officials, German engineering and technology companies, Nigerian businesses, financial institutions and other stakeholders to discuss industrial investment, infrastructure development, technology transfer and economic cooperation.
The Head of the German Engineering Federation, VDMA, delegation, Dr Chux Onaa, said German machinery and equipment manufacturers could support Nigeria’s industrial development through expertise in materials handling, cement and minerals processing, digitalisation and environmental technologies.
Onaa said German technology could contribute to improved productivity, operational reliability and long-term industrial competitiveness.
The engagement is part of wider efforts by the Federal Government to attract foreign direct investment and strengthen Nigeria’s industrial value chains.
Government officials said partnerships with international manufacturers could help increase local production, create employment opportunities and support the development of technical skills.
The discussions with the German companies are expected to continue as Nigeria seeks to convert the current engagements into concrete investment commitments and long-term industrial partnerships.
