New Army Formations Will Strengthen Response to Insecurity — Tinubu
Tinubu says new Army formations in four states will bring troops closer to vulnerable communities and improve security response.
President Bola Tinubu has said the operationalisation of new Nigerian Army formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun states will strengthen the military’s response to insecurity and bring troops closer to vulnerable communities.
Tinubu disclosed this in a statement on Sunday while highlighting measures being taken by his administration to improve the operational capacity and welfare of the Armed Forces.
The President said the new formations, which became operational during the week, would enable troops to respond more swiftly and decisively whenever communities in the affected areas come under threat.
He said the move was part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and improve the military’s presence in areas facing security challenges.
“This week, the Nigerian Army operationalised new formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun. Our troops are now closer to vulnerable communities in these areas, strengthening our ability to respond swiftly and decisively when our people are threatened,” Tinubu said.
The President also disclosed that the Federal Government was accelerating the construction of new military barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi states, while the project in Osun State had already been completed.
According to him, the infrastructure projects are aimed at improving the working and living conditions of military personnel and their families.
Tinubu said the government must provide greater support for soldiers and their families as the Armed Forces take on increased responsibilities in protecting the country.
He also highlighted the recent salary increase for military personnel, saying feedback from servicemen and women indicated that the adjustment was making a positive difference to them and their families.
The President acknowledged the sacrifices made by military families whenever personnel are deployed for operations, stressing that the government has a responsibility to provide the resources and support required by the Armed Forces.
He said Nigeria must stand firmly behind military personnel and their families as they continue to serve the country.
The operationalisation of the new formations comes amid continuing security challenges in several parts of Nigeria, including attacks, kidnappings and banditry.
The new military presence in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun is expected to improve response times and strengthen coordination in communities considered vulnerable to security threats.
