NELFUND Disburses N8.2bn to 35,710 Kogi Students

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed N8.205 billion to students in eight tertiary institutions across Kogi State under the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.

The disbursement covered 35,710 applications for institutional fees and 34,154 applications for students’ upkeep, according to data on the intervention.

Of the total amount, N4.124 billion was disbursed for institutional fees, while N4.082 billion was provided as upkeep allowances to beneficiaries.

The Federal University, Lokoja, received the largest allocation at N3.577 billion. The institution recorded 15,408 applications for institutional fees, amounting to N1.767 billion, while 14,655 upkeep applications received N1.810 billion.

Prince Abubakar Audu University followed with N1.956 billion, comprising N904.207 million for institutional fees and N1.052 billion for upkeep. The university recorded 8,992 institutional-fee applications and 8,614 upkeep applications.

Kogi State University, Kabba, received N1.229 billion, including N654.877 million for institutional fees and N573.760 million for upkeep.

The Confluence University of Science and Technology received N805.238 million, while the Federal Polytechnic, Idah, received N609.655 million.

Other beneficiary institutions included the Federal College of Education, Okene, which received N8.867 million; Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, which received N10.354 million; and Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, which received N9.378 million.

The intervention forms part of NELFUND’s student financing programme, which provides support for institutional fees and students’ living expenses as part of efforts to reduce financial barriers to tertiary education.
