NDLEA Arrests Two Europe-Bound Nigerians With 200 Cocaine Wraps
NDLEA operatives arrest two Nigerians travelling to Europe after allegedly discovering 200 wraps of cocaine concealed in their bodies during airport screening.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two Nigerians preparing to travel to Europe after allegedly uncovering 200 wraps of cocaine concealed in their bodies.
The arrests were made during routine airport screening as anti-narcotics operatives intensified efforts to disrupt international drug trafficking networks using Nigerian airports as departure points.
According to the agency, the suspects were intercepted after intelligence-led checks raised suspicions about their movements. Subsequent examinations reportedly revealed that the travellers had ingested or concealed multiple wraps of cocaine.
The NDLEA said the operation formed part of its continuing campaign against drug couriers and trafficking syndicates that recruit individuals to transport illicit substances across international borders.
The agency has repeatedly warned prospective couriers about the serious health risks associated with swallowing or internally concealing drug packages. Such packages can rupture inside the body, potentially causing fatal poisoning or other life-threatening complications.
The arrests also highlight the challenges facing airport authorities as traffickers continue to devise methods to evade detection while moving narcotics between countries.
The NDLEA is expected to investigate the suspects’ alleged links to drug trafficking networks and determine the source and intended destination of the seized substances.
Drug trafficking offences in Nigeria carry severe penalties under the country’s narcotics laws. Suspects are, however, presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
The agency has urged members of the public to provide credible information about drug trafficking activities and warned that it would continue working with international partners to dismantle networks involved in the production, distribution and transportation of illicit drugs.
