The Nigerian Navy has warned members of the public against fake Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) recruitment notices circulating on social media.

The Director of Naval Information, Capt. Abi Folorunsho, gave the warning in a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday.

Folorunsho said the notices, which advertised openings for DSSC Course 30 across medical, engineering, legal, Information and Communication Technology and other fields, were not issued by the Nigerian Navy.

He stressed that the Navy’s DSSC recruitment exercise had not commenced and urged prospective applicants to disregard the circulating notices.

“The attached DSSC notices are not from the Nigerian Navy and have been circulating all over social media,” he said.

Folorunsho said when the recruitment exercise commenced, details would be published through his official social media account, the Nigerian Navy’s official website and its verified social media platforms.

He also warned members of the public against individuals who might attempt to exploit the fake notices to defraud prospective applicants.

The warning came a day after the Navy announced the commencement of its 2026 Batch 39 recruitment exercise for the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School.

The Batch 39 exercise is scheduled to run from October 2 to October 31, 2026, with eligible applicants required to apply through the Navy’s official recruitment portal.

The Navy said the recruitment process was free and cautioned applicants against making payments to individuals or agents claiming to have the ability to secure recruitment slots.

It said applicants for the Batch 39 exercise must be Nigerian citizens by birth, possess a National Identification Number and satisfy the prescribed educational, age, physical and medical requirements.

The Navy’s warning on DSSC recruitment is separate from the Batch 39 Basic Training School exercise and does not signify the commencement of DSSC Course 30 recruitment.
