MultiChoice Nigeria Remains Deeply Nigerian, Says CEO

The Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, Kemi Omotosho, has described the company as a deeply Nigerian business backed by the strength and resources of a global group.

Omotosho said MultiChoice Nigeria had remained locally focused after becoming part of CANAL+, a global media and entertainment group operating across 70 countries.

She said Nigerian teams, partners, producers and creatives remained at the heart of the company’s operations, with its products, content and commercial strategies shaped around the realities of the Nigerian market.

According to her, the partnership with CANAL+ provides MultiChoice Nigeria with greater access to technology, content, international expertise and economies of scale while allowing the business to retain its local identity.

She cited platforms and initiatives such as Big Brother Naija and the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards as examples of the company’s continued investment in Nigerian stories, talent and culture.

Omotosho said MultiChoice had evolved over more than three decades from a pay-TV operator into a broader participant in Nigeria’s media and creative economy.

She noted that the company’s ecosystem now includes producers, actors, production crews, dealers, installers and small businesses, creating jobs and supporting livelihoods.

The CEO also highlighted the MultiChoice Talent Factory, which she said had helped develop young filmmakers and production talent by providing practical skills for careers in the creative industry.

She said the company would continue investing in Nigerian content, filmmakers, actors, production capabilities and emerging creative talent, with the ambition of producing stories that could compete both within Africa and globally.
