Actor Ogogo to Be Buried Monday
Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will be laid to rest Monday in Ilaro, Ogun State.
Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will be buried in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday.
Hassan died at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66.
The burial announcement was made by fellow veteran actor Jide Kosoko, who disclosed that the actor’s remains would be taken to Ilaro on Sunday ahead of the funeral arrangements.
According to the announcement, a lying-in-state ceremony will be held on Monday at the Pavilion in Ilaro, beginning at 11 a.m.
The announcement expressed condolences to Hassan’s family, friends, colleagues and admirers while praying for the deceased to receive eternal rest.
The Ilaro Muslim Community also confirmed the burial arrangements in a separate announcement, stating that burial prayers would be held at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground at 10 a.m. on Monday.
The community described Hassan as a beloved brother and called on members of the public to attend the burial prayers.
The actor’s death has generated widespread reactions across the Nigerian entertainment industry, with colleagues and fans mourning one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language cinema.
Hassan was widely recognised for his contributions to Nollywood, particularly the Yoruba film industry, where he built a long-standing career as an actor, filmmaker and producer.
His career spanned several decades, during which he featured in and produced numerous films and became popularly known by his nickname, Ogogo.
His passing comes after reports of his battle with cancer, which had attracted public attention in the days preceding his death.
Family members had previously spoken about the challenges surrounding his illness and the emotional toll it had taken on those close to him.
His death is expected to prompt further tributes from colleagues, fans and industry stakeholders who worked with him throughout his career.
The funeral arrangements in Ilaro will provide family members, colleagues, friends and admirers an opportunity to pay their final respects to the veteran actor.
