Military Relocates Operation Safe Haven Headquarters Following Plateau Killings

The military has relocated the tactical headquarters of Operation Safe Haven from Jos, the Plateau State capital, to Mangu Local Government Area following a series of deadly attacks in the area.

The relocation was announced on Wednesday by the Commander of Operation Safe Haven and General Officer Commanding, 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Williams Dangana.

Dangana said the decision was aimed at improving operational efficiency and enabling security commanders to respond more quickly to threats in the affected communities.

He said establishing a physical presence in Mangu would allow the leadership of the operation to maintain direct and real-time assessment of the security situation.

The relocation follows several attacks in Mangu, including the recent assault on Binper Village, where more than 25 people were reportedly killed.

Dangana said the headquarters had also received significant reinforcement in troops, equipment and logistics following approval by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu.

He said the additional resources would strengthen the operation’s capacity to respond to security threats and protect residents in vulnerable communities.

The military said the move was part of broader efforts to restore peace and stability in Plateau State and prevent further attacks.

Dangana assured residents that the security forces would intensify operations against those responsible for the violence.

He urged communities to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist ongoing operations.

The relocation is expected to place the command closer to areas experiencing heightened insecurity and improve coordination among security agencies operating in the affected communities.
