Makinde’s Chief of Staff Resigns Months Before 2027 General Election
Ogunwuyi resigns as Makinde’s Chief of Staff amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, without publicly disclosing his reasons.
Segun Ogunwuyi, Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has resigned from his position, adding to the recent departures of political appointees from the state government ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ogunwuyi’s resignation was announced on Monday, October 12, in a letter in which he stated that his decision took immediate effect.
“I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026,” he wrote.
The former chief of staff did not disclose the reason for his resignation. However, his departure comes amid growing political developments in Oyo State as political actors begin positioning themselves ahead of the next general elections.
In his resignation letter, Ogunwuyi expressed appreciation to Governor Makinde for the opportunity to serve in his administration, describing his time in government as an honour and a fulfilling experience.
He also praised the administration’s efforts to advance the growth, development and prosperity of Oyo State, expressing confidence in the state’s continued progress following his departure.
“I remain immensely proud of what we have collectively accomplished in advancing the growth, development and prosperity of our dear State,” he stated.
Ogunwuyi concluded his letter by reaffirming his respect for the governor and his loyalty to Oyo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
His resignation follows the departure of several political appointees from Makinde’s administration in recent months, drawing attention to possible changes within the governor’s political camp.
Reports have also raised speculation about Ogunwuyi’s possible political realignment, including suggestions that he could be considering joining the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, neither Ogunwuyi nor the governor’s office has officially confirmed any such move.
Makinde’s political future has also attracted attention amid reports of his interest in contesting the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Ogunwuyi previously served as a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, representing the Ogbomoso North, South and Oriire Federal Constituency before joining Makinde’s administration.
His next political move remains uncertain as developments continue to unfold in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
