Makinde Raises LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Cleaners’ Pay to ₦80,000

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved an increase in the monthly salaries of cleaners at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, from ₦15,000 to ₦80,000.

The increase was announced following a meeting with stakeholders at the teaching hospital on Thursday, according to a statement issued by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, on Friday.

The statement said the adjustment was intended to bring the cleaners’ monthly pay in line with Nigeria’s national minimum wage.

The decision followed an appeal by the cleaners, who met the governor during his visit to the hospital.

Makinde also appealed to striking health workers to give his administration an opportunity to address their grievances, emphasising the need for dialogue to resolve the dispute.

He urged the workers to call off the strike to create room for discussions on their demands and the challenges facing the health sector.

The governor acknowledged that disagreements over workers’ welfare required practical solutions, adding that both the government and the unions had responsibilities in resolving the dispute.

Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, commended the governor’s support for the health sector and assured workers that the administration remained committed to addressing recurring industrial disputes.

The salary adjustment forms part of the state government’s response to concerns over staff welfare at the teaching hospital, where industrial action has disrupted services.

The development highlights ongoing efforts to address remuneration concerns among lower-income hospital workers while the government engages health sector unions over outstanding entitlements and other workplace issues.
